Two Types of Tea Cloth: ""Thin"" Using Hand-Spun Linen Weft and ""Thick"" Made from Hand-Spun, Hand-Woven Linen. Each piece is finished with individually hand-sewn edge binding. Sen no Rikyu once declared that tea cloths should be white and new, considering them so essential that tea ceremony could be performed with a tea cloth alone. Nara was historically a major centre for ramie textiles called Nara Sarashi and a renowned production region for beautiful white tea cloths. These ochakin represent the very origins of Nakagawa – crafted from pure ramie with hand-weaving and individually hand-sewn edge finishing.
