A rounded-corner pickle crock that makes you want to "stir it."

The key to delicious pickles is regularly stirring the entire mixture. Containers with square shapes have the problem of nuka accumulating in the four corners, making it difficult to stir properly. By adding large curves to the corners, we've created a shape that allows natural stirring motions throughout, including the corners. By carefully adjusting the curve angles, we've achieved large rounded corners that are easy to stir while ensuring stability when placed.

【General Care】
  • Always wash with water or lukewarm water before use.

  • Do not use metal scrubbers or abrasive powders as they may scratch the surface.
  • Dishwasher safe for enamel container only.
  • Do not use in microwaves.
【Enamel Container】
  • The surface is glass-like, so impacts from bumping or dropping may cause cracks or damage. Handle with care.
  • Due to enamel characteristics, the steel plate edges are difficult to coat with enamel, so rust may occur.
  • The rim of the main body has firing marks from the manufacturing process, resulting in roughness or indentations. Be careful of injury when touching with bare hands.
【Wooden Lid】
  • Avoid strong impacts as they may cause deformation or damage.
  • Do not soak for extended periods. After washing, wipe with a soft dry cloth and store after thorough drying in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
  • As this is a natural material, the wood's texture and aroma will change over time. Please enjoy this as part of the natural aging process.
  • Individual variations in wood grain and color exist - please enjoy each piece's unique character.
【Water Separator】
  • Be careful of chipping or cracking from strong impacts.

Noda Horo's manufacturing is focused on Japanese products

Noda Horo, the maker of the containers, is an enamel manufacturer that is committed to using Japanese-made products and performs all processes of enamel production in-house. Although the containers are simply shaped, delicate press molding techniques were required to create a curve that maintains stability and makes it easy to stir. To achieve a beautiful finish, the glass glaze is applied by hand one by one. It is a tool that is packed with advanced craftsmanship due to its simplicity.

A classy wooden lid that is not overly assertive

Designer Shibata said, "I wanted to create something that is neither Japanese nor Western, but neutral, so that it can fit into a variety of kitchens and can be used for a long time." The lid of the container is made of a refined wood material that is not too assertive, in keeping with that idea.

Enamel containers do not absorb odours and are resistant to salt and acid

"Enamel" is a material made by applying a glassy glaze to metal and firing it. It has the strength of iron, but the glassy glaze applied has a rust-resistant effect and gives it a smooth luster and beauty. It is resistant to acids and salt, and is easy to clean as it does not easily absorb odours or stains, making it ideal for storing food.

Size and shape that fits neatly in the refrigerator

The size is designed to fit in the lower compartment of a refrigerator for making pickled vegetables in rice bran (nukazuke). With cold storage, you can enjoy stable nukazuke throughout the year. Additionally, the rounded bottom creates an easy-to-hold shape, allowing smooth removal and storage. The charming combination of the warm, milky white container and wooden lid softens the kitchen atmosphere when taken out of the refrigerator. With its neutral appearance that's not overly Japanese in style, we recommend it not only for traditional Japanese vegetables but also for pickling celery and other vegetables in a pickle-style approach. Please freely enjoy your nukazuke experience.

Japanese craft history

A manufacturer dedicated exclusively to enamelware since its founding. They weld steel plates to create the foundational shape, then apply glass-like glaze by hand to each piece before firing at high temperatures. They are the only company in Japan to handle all processes of enamelware production in-house. Products are manufactured in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, and everything (including components) is made in Japan.

Handling & care

Enamelware is a material created by firing glass-like glaze onto metal surfaces. It combines strong but rust-prone iron with beautiful but fragile glass, creating a composite material that harnesses the strengths of both - durability and beauty. Compared to plastic containers, it offers superior durability, eliminates concerns about food odor transfer, and can be cherished for long-term use.
