This tenugui (hand towel) features traditional Japanese proverbs as its motif. 'Chusen' is a stencil dyeing technique where special resist paste is applied to layered fabric, then dye is poured from above to colour the pattern areas. The resulting textile is dyed through both sides, and the gradations and bleeds that occur during the dyeing process give each piece its unique character.
