Created with Minowada Kiln in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture
These pots were made in collaboration with Minowada Kiln, which creates everyday vessels from local materials such as clay, Inai stone, rice husk ash, and scallop shells, working from a former primary school building converted into a pottery in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture. The design evokes the pottery traditions of the Tohoku region while creating a presence that harmonizes with contemporary dining tables.
The Natural Variations Created Through Wheel Throwing
Each pot is individually thrown on the potter's wheel by artisans. The 'Wind Pattern Green' design, inspired by the winds and waves of Ishinomaki, features hand-drawn ripple patterns, making each piece unique. The 'Blue' glaze, commonly known as Ishinomaki Blue, uses a glaze that naturally creates variations, resulting in colour differences between individual pieces. Please enjoy the natural variations in colour that emerge from using natural materials.
Wide-Mouthed Design for Easy Handling
The wide-mouthed, stable design allows easy visibility and access to the contents while also making cleaning simple—a delightful feature. These pots are perfectly sized for storing rice accompaniments such as pickled plums, other pickles, or chirimen-zansho (sweet pepper seasoned with young sardines).
