Peonies and Butterflies Dancing Gracefully Around the Bowl
This bowl was created with reference to the decorative style called 'aka-e' (red painting) that was fired in China, then introduced to and spread throughout Japan. These vibrant, colourful vessels were cherished by many after arriving in Japan, and pottery regions across the country repeatedly attempted to recreate the beauty of aka-e.
This particular bowl is modelled after early aka-e featuring flowers and plants. Peony flowers and butterflies dance gracefully around it.
