A Shigaraki-yaki mug featuring "Sun and Moon" patterns and glazes.
This mug from the "Sun and Moon" series is created by Meizan Kiln, a pottery that has continued in Shigaraki for approximately 400 years. It features Japanese-style patterns based on Meizan Kiln's logo mark. Characterised by simple colours that coordinate easily, the luster and texture of the glaze, and a warm form.

Precautions for Using Ceramic Tableware
- Wash with water or hot water once before first use.
- After use, wash promptly and dry thoroughly before storing.
- Do not leave with dirt on it as this may cause mold and stains.
- Crack-like patterns may appear on the surface with use, but this is a glaze phenomenon called "crazing" and not actual cracks. It can be used without problems.
- Dishwasher safe but may cause chipping, so hand washing is recommended for longevity. Be careful not to overcrowd as this can cause breakage.
- Microwave safe, but cannot be used for oven cooking.

- Ceramic products are very delicate. Please handle with care.
- The bottom has been polished, but depending on where it's placed, use a placemat as a precaution.
- Dispose of damaged products according to local regulations.
About Hi to Tsuki Quality
Hi to Tsuki plates are characterized by their undulating shapes. Please enjoy the unique form of each piece.
Tsukishiro may take on a pinkish color due to a kiln effect called "gohonte." It will not discolor with use, so please use with confidence.
Pattern appearance varies depending on glaze application and mold pressing.

This mug cup has a wide opening and is just the right size for those with smaller hands to hold by wrapping both hands around it. With a perfect capacity of 200ml, it's ideal for tea time - filling it with plenty of coffee or tea to enjoy the aroma - as well as for serving soups and potages. The handle has a gentle curve, allowing for a secure grip whether you hook your fingers from the outside or thread them along the body of the cup. We recommend collecting a family set by combining different colored mugs with plates and sake vessels from the same series.
Glaze Gradations to Enjoy with Eyes and Hands
The distinctive gradation on the exterior is created by deliberately layering two types of glaze, which then mix and drip during firing. By using glazes with different textures, an interesting tactile quality emerges where the feel changes depending on where you touch. Combined with the handcrafted shape made individually by artisans and the warm texture of ceramics, it creates an atmosphere of relaxed, leisurely time.
Tableware Series with Original Japanese Patterns from a Shigaraki Kiln Continuing Since the Edo Period
Made by Meizan Kiln in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. Founded around 1600, this pottery continues to preserve the history and techniques of Shigaraki-yaki while constantly challenging new methods and expressions. Shigaraki has the ancient Lake Biwa geological layer, where animal and plant remains and granite sediment accumulated on the lake bottom approximately 3 million years ago. The clay, rich in feldspar and quartz particles, produces the distinctive kiln effects (youhen - color changes) unique to Shigaraki-yaki, known as hi-iro (fire color), haigaburi (ash glazing), and ishihaze (stone popping). While modern potters sometimes use materials from other locations, firing techniques that showcase the clay's natural character remain one of Shigaraki-yaki's enduring charms.
