About the Quality of Secca
About pinholes

When bisque firing, air remaining in the base material or organic matter (dust, etc.) may remain as small holes after firing, and these small holes are called pinholes. There is no need to worry about using it.

About stone haze

When feldspar contained in the soil explodes during firing and is exposed to the surface, it is called "stone haze". If you see small white granular objects on the surface, that is stone haze.

About iron powder

Ceramics contain various components such as iron and microorganisms in the soil, and when fired, these may appear on the surface as black dots. We hope you will understand and enjoy this as a unique texture of ceramics.

Smooth form and texture that enhances cuisine

Tableware with beautiful forms created by smooth curves and the soft texture of ceramics. With just the right amount of negative space, these pieces enhance cuisine while providing practical features like comfortable handling. Available in two colors: soft, calming White and sophisticated matte Black with rich depth. We recommend combining different colors and items together. Coffee cup: A beautifully curved coffee cup with soft, stylish lines. The distinctive protruding handle allows for comfortable grip. It adds a sophisticated touch to your coffee time.

Shigaraki × Kanazawa Tradition × Technology A product born from the fusion of craftsmanship

The design is original work by secca, a creative collective based in Kanazawa, a historic city known for its cuisine and traditional crafts. By using 3D digital technology to create forms that Meizan Kiln then produces in ceramics, they achieved shapes impossible to create with traditional hand throwing. This is a new product series born from learning from history and tradition while utilizing cutting-edge technology.

New expressions created by a Shigaraki kiln that has continued since the Edo period

Made by Meizan Kiln in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture. Founded around 1600, this pottery continues to preserve the history and techniques of Shigaraki-yaki while constantly challenging new methods and expressions. Shigaraki has the ancient Lake Biwa geological layer, where animal and plant remains and granite sediment accumulated on the lake bottom approximately 3 million years ago. The clay, rich in feldspar and quartz particles, produces the distinctive kiln effects (youhen - color changes) unique to Shigaraki-yaki, known as hi-iro (fire color), haigaburi (ash glazing), and ishihaze (stone popping). While modern potters sometimes use materials from other locations, firing techniques that showcase the clay's natural character remain one of Shigaraki-yaki's enduring charms.

Meizan Kiln

A pottery kiln in Shigaraki, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, that has been creating ceramics for over 400 years. They treasure the distinctive "landscapes" unique to traditional Shigaraki-yaki, characterized by vessels that showcase scarlet colors, bidoro glaze, and the beauty of natural firing marks. They deliver vessels with soft, warm "landscapes" in forms that harmonize with contemporary dining tables.
