This tray is two sizes larger than our ""RIN&CO. Echizen Woodwork Corner-Cut Tray Small,"" providing ample space for a complete individual meal. The generous size makes it perfect for entertaining larger groups with confidence.
""Square woodwork"" requires combining boards of uniform thickness – a process demanding precise calculations and highly skilled techniques. The beautiful wood grain expression is a hallmark of Echizen woodwork. These trays have served households for generations – for serving, carrying, storing, gathering round, and laying foundations for meals.
About Echizen Woodwork:
Lacquerware production involves four specialised stages: wood base preparation, undercoating, lacquering, and gold lacquer decoration.
Whilst bowls and tea saucers are called ""round items"" (marumono), boxes and rectangular trays are known as ""square items"" (kakumono).
Both categories preserve Japan's exceptional woodworking heritage – deep wood knowledge and blade-sharpening mastery passed down through generations of skilled artisans. This expertise creates the distinctive wood grain beauty that defines Echizen woodwork.
Trays have been household essentials for centuries – serving, carrying, storing, gathering, and laying. Corner-cut trays are also perfect as decorative display pieces in entrance halls.
