Nabeshima Celadon Sencha Cup - Elegant Beauty

KOSEN: Bringing Nabeshima-yaki into Contemporary Life A sencha cup in Nabeshima celadon from KOSEN, a new brand that brings the renowned luxury tableware of Nabeshima-yaki into modern living. Nabeshima-yaki is porcelain created during the Edo period as "daily essentials for feudal lords" - used exclusively by shoguns and daimyo. It is characterised by its refinement and splendour, achieved through exceptional technical mastery. Nabeshima celadon ranks alongside Iro-Nabeshima (coloured) and Ai-Nabeshima (blue-and-white) as one of the representative techniques, distinguished by its dignified presence and the beauty of its blue-green celadon glaze.

Clear Blue-Green Born from Rare Natural Celadon Stone

Kosen Kiln descends from a lineage entrusted with celadon production and painting for over 300 years, and remains renowned today for the beauty of its celadon. This beauty is sustained by natural celadon stone, found exclusively in Ōkawachiyama, Imari - where Kosen Kiln is located. When this rare stone is finely crushed, dissolved in water to create a glaze, and applied to white porcelain before firing, a luminous celadon colour emerges.

Luxurious Craftsmanship Rooted in Nabeshima Tradition

A single application of glaze does not yield a beautiful colour; it must be layered repeatedly to build depth. The celadon glaze itself - made from rare natural celadon stone - is a luxury. This unstinting generosity recalls the roots of Nabeshima-yaki, once permitted only to a privileged few. The distinctive translucent hue enhances and beautifies the colour of sencha tea.

Functional Beauty, Considered Even When Stacked

The thickness of the glaze serves a stacking function; when nested, the cups reveal a refreshing form reminiscent of green bamboo - a carefully calculated design. Beautiful both in use and storage, this piece embodies the formality and dignity expected of daimyo tableware. Ideal for your own home or as a thoughtful gift.
