A Deep, Seemingly Endless Grid

This rice bowl uses techniques called 'itchin' or 'slip', where mud-like clay is used to draw patterns on vessels. These techniques have a long history and have been used worldwide.

Despite its simple appearance, this bowl involves intricate craftsmanship where clay grids are layered using the itchin technique before the clay dries. The deep grid patterns drawn vertically and horizontally appear to continue endlessly.

Handling Precautions

Microwave safe.

[Before use]
To prevent staining in the crazing (fine cracks on the surface), we recommend performing the following "Medome" (seasoning) process:

1. Put the dish in a pot with rice water (water from washing rice) or water with flour, and heat over medium heat.
2. Just before boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 15 minutes.
3. Turn off the heat and let it cool completely in the rice/flour water.
4. Wash well and dry thoroughly.

[When using]
Avoid sudden heating or cooling as it is sensitive to rapid temperature changes. Soaking the dish in water to allow it to absorb sufficient moisture before use helps prevent stains and odors.

[After use]
Dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for longevity. Overloading may cause damage, so please use with care.
Do not scrub hard with abrasive detergents or metal scourers, as this may cause scratches. Wash with a soft sponge.
Avoid soaking. After washing, wipe with a soft, dry cloth, dry thoroughly, and store in a well-ventilated place.

[Notes]
Be careful of chipping or cracking due to strong impacts.
For safety, stop using the product if it becomes cracked. Crazing (fine cracks on the surface) may appear over time with use, but this does not affect usability. Please enjoy it as part of the product's character. As each item is finished by hand, there may be individual differences in color and shape.

Deep Design Perfect for Hearty Meals

With a size that fits comfortably in adult hands, this bowl features a large, stable foot for secure use. Its depth and width provide ample space even for generous portions of rice, making it suitable as a small donburi bowl for rice dishes with toppings or sauce.

Created with Shotoen, an Innovative Mino Kiln

The Good Day Rice Bowl series offers various patterns created with kilns from across Japan. This 'Amber-White Grid' was created with Shotoen in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture. While primarily focused on Japanese pottery, this Mino kiln's approach is characterized by an experimental spirit and willingness to explore diverse styles.

The Natural 'Wavering' of Handcraftsmanship Adds Charm

In the Good Day Rice Bowl series, each pattern is hand-painted, making every piece unique with its own individual character. This 'wavering' quality characteristic of craft is a beauty that comes only from handwork. Through these daily rice bowls, please enjoy the charm of craftsmanship that has been loved and continued for generations.

May Your Daily Rice Bowl Bring Good Days

The Good Day Rice Bowl series was created with the hope that 'everyday items should bring good days.' Japanese rice bowls developed from tea ceremony traditions while being influenced by continental culture. They have fostered customs of hand-holding etiquette and a culture of diverse decorative painting that brightens daily life. Contemporary artisans carrying on this history finish each piece with meticulous handwork. Please enjoy their comforting presence and the rich world created by various patterns.
