Enhancing the communal dining experience with a "vessel-like" clay pot.
We created a vessel-like clay pot by eliminating the interior step and widening the opening. When you lift the lid, the ingredients appear dramatically close and visibl ...
Wide mouth shape makes food look delicious
Because it widens towards the edge, the food inside is easy to see, making it a perfect shape for the dining table. The gently widening edge of the shape makes it like a rimmed plate, and it can stably hold the lid even without any internal steps. The edge also creates the effect of framing the contents. The ridged decoration on the inside is inspired by old Japanese pottery. Although simple, it brings out the texture of the clay and glaze.
Boil, steam, fry... A clay pot that can be used for a variety of dishes
The flat shape with moderate depth can be used not only for hot pot dishes, but also for boiling, stewing, steaming, stir-frying, and other everyday side dishes. Cook dishes such as Chikuzenni, stir-fried meat and vegetables, and meat and potatoes in the clay pot and serve them directly at the table. Everyday dishes will instantly stand out as large platters, enriching your daily dinner table. Although it has an unprecedented wide-bore shape, it retains the characteristics of clay pots, such as thorough heat transfer and high heat retention, making it a clay pot that can be used for a wide range of purposes and is useful all year round. Simple appearance and functionality born from the high-quality soil of Shigaraki
The potter is Matsusho, a potter in Shigaraki, one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. Shigaraki ware is made from firm and sticky clay extracted from the Kobiwa Lake Formation, making it highly fire-resistant and characterized by its unique rough texture. Matsusho has a medium-volume production system in addition to high craftsmanship, and is good at making pottery that makes the most of the warmth of the clay. This clay pot also makes use of highly precise molding and hand-carved work that changes the nuances of the different parts. The surface of the pot has been intentionally carved roughly to emphasize the texture of the clay.
Perform "Medome", sealing, Before Use
Coarse clay is used in construction. Seasoning allows starch to fill the crazing (fine surface cracks) and small pores in the clay, preventing crazing discoloration and water leakage. 1. Dry wipe or lightly wash with water, wipe away moisture, and dry thoroughly. 2. Fill 80% with water, add 3 tablespoons of potato starch for large size (2 tablespoons for medium), and cook until paste-like. Apply paste to the rim area with kitchen paper to prevent staining. 3. Leave for 24-48 hours, then wash thoroughly and dry completely. See video in Handling & care below.
