Created using traditional paulownia box techniques for Kogei crafts.

We created food storage boxes that utilise the functionality and beautiful presence of paulownia wood, which contains tannins, paulownin, and sesamin—components that insects dislike—while offering excellent moisture regulation properties for kitchen use.

Paulownia, long valued in Japan's humid climate, has superior moisture-regulating properties that help maintain consistent humidity inside paulownia boxes, making it ideal for food storage.

Handling Precautions

■ Bread, Tea, Coffee
  • To maintain freshness for longer, store in bags with the seal open. Storing with bags sealed can trap moisture, so open storage is recommended.
  • When storing items with weak aromas together with strongly scented items like flavored teas or coffee for extended periods, aromas may transfer. Use caution during long-term storage.
  • While bread can be placed directly in the stocker, be aware it may dry out faster. Commercially available breads have different moisture content and sugar levels, so the same effects may not be achieved for all breads.
■ Dried Goods
  • To maintain freshness for longer, store in zip-lock bags with seals closed. Storing with bags open may compromise aroma and flavor, so sealed storage is recommended.
■ Rice
  • To maintain freshness for longer, remove from bags and store directly. Holds approximately 5kg of rice.
Product Handling
  • Avoid cleaning with water as this may cause staining, discoloration, deformation, or cracking.
  • If dirt adheres, avoid washing with water and wipe with a dry cloth as soon as possible.
  • If dirt cannot be removed, wipe with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly afterward.
  • If odor transfer inside the box is a concern, empty the contents and air-dry in shade for several hours.
  • Avoid use or storage near flames, in damp areas, dry places, direct sunlight, or areas with direct heating/cooling as this may cause discoloration, deformation, or corrosion.
  • Use only for the product's intended purpose and usage.
  • Avoid strong impacts as they may cause deformation or damage.
  • As this is a natural material, the wood's texture and aroma will change over time. Please enjoy this as part of the natural aging process.
  • Individual variations in wood grain and color exist - please enjoy each piece's unique character.
  • The surface has a beeswax finish. When surface luster diminishes, apply an appropriate amount of beeswax with a lint-free dry cloth (such as a cleaning cloth or eyeglass cloth), spreading well while applying only to the exterior. Finish with a final dry polish. Perform maintenance every 3-6 months as a guideline.

An appearance that matches well with the interior

The sleek design doesn't stand out too much whether you leave it out in the kitchen or line it up with other appliances in a cabinet. It also blends in seamlessly with the interior decor of the dining room or living room.

From bread boxes to storage boxes

Recommended as a storage box for bread and rice, utilizing its moisture-regulating function. It can hold two loaves of bread side by side, or 5kg of rice. Also suitable for storing tea, dried goods, sweets, and other items that need protection from moisture. Since these items tend to create clutter and come in various sizes, having a designated storage box keeps everything looking neat and organized.

Versatile storage and serving solutions

Its beautiful presence makes it suitable as a storage box for dining tables where small items tend to be left out. With excellent moisture regulation properties, it's also ideal for storing precision equipment like cameras. A DSLR camera with its accompanying lens fits perfectly inside. The lid can also be used as a tray. It's conveniently compact for carrying breakfast sets or tea time items, making it perfect for transporting small items stored in the box.
