The "Basic Set" series was born from the desire to have people use Japanese vessels with distinctive regional characteristics in their daily lives without feeling formal about it. We worked with kilns throughout Japan to create vessels that can handle three daily meals with a complete set—minimal in number yet maximum in versatility.
Seto, where pottery has been crafted for over a millennium, has become synonymous with Japanese ceramics. Created in collaboration with Suigi Pottery based here, this humble piece draws inspiration from the "ishizara" (stone plates) beloved by common people during the Edo period.
Height: 8cm
【Before Use】
To prevent dirt from getting into the crazing (fine surface cracks), we recommend the following sealing procedure:
- Put rice washing water and the container in a pot and heat over medium heat
- Just before it boils, turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 15 minutes
- Turn off the heat and leave it in the rice washing water to cool to room temperature
- Wash thoroughly and dry thoroughly
【During Use】
- Avoid rapid heating and cooling as it is vulnerable to sudden temperature changes. Soaking in water to absorb sufficient moisture before use will help prevent stains and odors.
- The bottom has a wide hama (unglazed area) without glaze, so if you put liquid in for extended periods without sealing, moisture absorbed by the body may seep out from the bottom. (Even with sealing, some moisture will be absorbed, so like other ceramics, it will feel slightly damp to the touch.)
【After Use】
- Dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for longevity. Be careful not to overcrowd as this can cause breakage.
- Wash with a soft sponge as scrubbing hard with abrasive cleaners or metal scrubbers may cause scratches.
- Avoid soaking. After washing, wipe with a soft dry cloth, dry thoroughly, and store in a well-ventilated place.
【Important Notes】
- Be careful of chipping and cracking from strong impacts.
- Stop using if cracks or fissures appear for safety reasons.
- Crazing may develop with use, but this does not affect functionality and can be enjoyed as part of the item's character.
- As this is handcrafted, there may be individual variations in color and shape.
