Contemporary Mino-yaki Tea Cups That Harmonize with Modern Tables

These Mino-yaki tea cups were created in collaboration with local Mino kilns. They are part of our 'Basic Set' series, born from a desire to make distinctive regional Japanese tableware approachable for everyday use.

While preserving the characteristic elements of Mino ware—which developed Japan's unique pottery culture beloved by tea masters who appreciate the flowing glazes and irregular forms as expressive features—these cups have been designed to complement contemporary dining tables.

Handling Precautions

Microwave safe.

[Before use]
To prevent staining in the crazing (fine cracks on the surface), we recommend performing the following "Medome" (seasoning) process:

1. Put the dish in a pot with rice water (water from washing rice) or water with flour, and heat over medium heat.
2. Just before boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 15 minutes.
3. Turn off the heat and let it cool completely in the rice/flour water.
4. Wash well and dry thoroughly.

[When using]
Avoid sudden heating or cooling as it is sensitive to rapid temperature changes. Soaking the dish in water to allow it to absorb sufficient moisture before use helps prevent stains and odors.

[After use]
Dishwasher safe, but hand washing is recommended for longevity. Overloading may cause damage, so please use with care.
Do not scrub hard with abrasive detergents or metal scourers, as this may cause scratches. Wash with a soft sponge.
Avoid soaking. After washing, wipe with a soft, dry cloth, dry thoroughly, and store in a well-ventilated place.

[Notes]
Be careful of chipping or cracking due to strong impacts.
For safety, stop using the product if it becomes cracked. Crazing (fine cracks on the surface) may appear over time with use, but this does not affect usability. Please enjoy it as part of the product's character. As each item is finished by hand, there may be individual differences in colour and shape.

Sharp Silhouette Creating a Light Impression

The cups were created with Sakuzan Kiln, which incorporates modern sensibilities while remaining rooted in Mino's cultural heritage. Traditional Mino glazes are used, but the sharp silhouette creates a light, contemporary impression.

Three Distinctive Mino-yaki Styles Available

'Kairagi' features a crinkled, granular glaze texture beloved by tea masters. 'Tsuchikai' uses an ancient glaze known for its earthy texture and colour. 'Ao-oribe' showcases the impressive green colour developed under the guidance of Furuta Oribe. Each piece develops more character with use, growing increasingly endearing over time. Please enjoy having these cups by your side during tea time and meals as your everyday companions.
