It's said that lacquer reaches its maximum solidity 100 years after application, requiring many years for complete curing.
"Echizen Hard Lacquer" is lacquer that can withstand dishwashers, achieved through industry-academia-government collaboration between Fukui Prefecture and Fukui University to create a hard coating.
The "shinnuri technique" of finishing the coating in a single application involves filtering the lacquer multiple times to carefully remove dust and applying it without leaving brush marks. "Echizen Hard Lacquer" is finished with unique shapes and beautiful colours to suit contemporary dining, making it suitable for use as everyday tableware.
The base is large and stably built with a solid form. The flared rim curves outward, making it easy to bring to your mouth and comfortable to hold.
It can also be used as a large bowl, bigger than typical soup bowls. It's the perfect size for noodles and rice bowls. The characteristic feature is the flared rim.
Dishwasher-compatible lacquerware that suits contemporary dining. The traditional ""Asakura Bowl"" inherits classic forms with a Donburi-sized flared rim that's easy to bring to your mouth.
