Enhancing the communal dining experience with a "vessel-like" clay pot.

We created a vessel-like clay pot by eliminating the interior step and widening the opening. When you lift the lid, the ingredients appear dramatically close and visible, creating an impressive presentation at the table. The easy visibility of contents makes it natural to reach for food, encouraging people to gather naturally around the pot. This clay pot brings people and food closer together. The medium size serves 2-3 people. With its harmonious presence that complements various dishes, it can be used for a wide range of purposes beyond hot pot cooking.

Handling Precautions

Particularly Important Points
  • Sudden temperature changes such as rapid heating or cooling may cause cracking.
  • Clay pots retain heat, so they become extremely hot during use. Be very careful of burns and table scorching.
  • Depending on usage, crazing may retain color, but this is a natural characteristic of clay pots.
Handling Precautions
  • Can be used in microwaves, ovens, and on direct flame.
【Before Use】
Perform Seasoning (Mezashi)

Coarse clay is used. Seasoning allows starch to fill the crazing (fine surface cracks) and small pores in the clay, preventing staining and water leakage.

  1. Dry wipe or lightly wash with water, wipe dry, and let dry completely.
  2. Fill 80% with water, add 3 tablespoons of potato starch for large size (2 tablespoons for medium), and cook until paste-like. Apply paste to rim area with kitchen paper to prevent staining.
  3. Leave for 24-48 hours, then wash thoroughly and dry completely.
【During Use】
Avoid Rapid Heating and Cooling
  • Sudden temperature changes can cause cracking.
  • Do not dry heat, suddenly heat on high flame, use on flame when bottom is wet, or add large amounts of cold water when hot.
  • When transitioning from stir-frying to simmering, add water gradually.
Do Not Use for Deep Frying
  • While stir-frying with small amounts of oil is fine, never use for tempura or frying with large amounts of oil due to fire risk.
Beware of Burns
  • Clay pots retain heat and cool slowly. They become extremely hot, so always use thick pot holders and keep lid on when moving to prevent spilling.
  • There are no handles, so grip the rim firmly.
Use Trivets
  • Place on wooden or metal trivets with high heat resistance.
  • Use trivets that won't be damaged by scorching.
  • Placing directly on tables may cause discoloration or deformation.
  • Coarse clay may scratch surfaces if dragged directly.
【After Use】
Wash Gently
  • Remove leftover food promptly to prevent odors.
  • Avoid soaking; hand wash after pot has cooled.
  • Use soft sponges as abrasive cleaners and metal scrubbers can cause scratches.
Dry Thoroughly
  • Remaining moisture can cause odors and mold. After washing, wipe with soft cloth, turn bottom-up for one day, then dry completely.
  • Store in well-ventilated area only after complete drying.
  • For long-term storage, wrap in newspaper rather than storing in box.
【Maintenance】
Natural Aging Occurs
  • With use, or even after one use with high heat/burning, crazing will retain color permanently.
  • The bottom will also scorch and change appearance. This is especially noticeable with yellow Seto glaze, but please enjoy this as natural character of clay cookware.
For Burnt-on Food
  • Soak in lukewarm water and scrub lightly with brush. If stubborn, simmer water with dissolved baking soda for 10 minutes on low heat.
  • Wash after cooling and dry thoroughly. This c

Wide mouth shape makes food look delicious

Because it widens towards the edge, the food inside is easy to see, making it a perfect shape for the dining table. The gently widening edge of the shape makes it like a rimmed plate, and it can stably hold the lid even without any internal steps. The edge also creates the effect of framing the contents. The ridged decoration on the inside is inspired by old Japanese pottery. Although simple, it brings out the texture of the clay and glaze.

Boil, steam, fry... A clay pot that can be used for a variety of dishes

The flat shape with moderate depth can be used not only for hot pot dishes, but also for boiling, stewing, steaming, stir-frying, and other everyday side dishes. Cook dishes such as Chikuzenni, stir-fried meat and vegetables, and meat and potatoes in the clay pot and serve them directly at the table. Everyday dishes will instantly stand out as large platters, enriching your daily dinner table. Although it has an unprecedented wide-bore shape, it retains the characteristics of clay pots, such as thorough heat transfer and high heat retention, making it a clay pot that can be used for a wide range of purposes and is useful all year round. Simple appearance and functionality born from the high-quality soil of Shigaraki

The potter is Matsusho, a potter in Shigaraki, one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan. Shigaraki ware is made from firm and sticky clay extracted from the Kobiwa Lake Formation, making it highly fire-resistant and characterized by its unique rough texture. Matsusho has a medium-volume production system in addition to high craftsmanship, and is good at making pottery that makes the most of the warmth of the clay. This clay pot also makes use of highly precise molding and hand-carved work that changes the nuances of the different parts. The surface of the pot has been intentionally carved roughly to emphasize the texture of the clay.
