Handling Precautions
This bamboo round tray and basket was made on Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture. It is a product of Matsunoya, a hardware wholesaler that handles household items and was founded in 1945. The more you use it and develop an attachment to it, the more its color and texture will change, which is one of the charms of bamboo, a natural material.
A traditional round tray made from woven bamboo from Sado Island.
Each basket is hand-woven by artisans using the finely woven "gozame-ami" technique. It is flat and shallow like a tray, and can be used to serve rice balls, bread, or soba noodles. If you fill a larger pot with water and place the basket on top, it can also be used as a steamer. During hot pot season, it can also be used as a serving basket to hold cut vegetables.
It can be used in a variety of ways, such as as a serving basket or steamer.
The 7-inch and 8-inch sizes are stacked on top of each other. The 7-inch size can be used as a steaming basket when combined with a medium-sized Shigaraki-yaki flat clay pot.
Can be used with Shigaraki flat clay pots
