Using Premium Echizen Hand-Made Washi Paper
The technique of applying washi paper directly to vessels for reinforcement is said to have begun around the Edo period in various regions. The washi-lined bowls that have been passed down in Echizen become more durable by applying washi paper to the wooden base and coating it with multiple layers of lacquer. Today, they are mainly used for kaiseki tableware and tea ceremony utensils. The washi used is Echizen hand-made washi - kozo rakusui-shi (mulberry fiber paper). Please enjoy the excellent durability and the gentle texture and feel of hand-made washi paper that comes through the lacquer.
Perfect for Gifts with Dedicated Box
The washi-lined bowls made only from natural materials - natural wood, genuine lacquer, and natural washi - have good hand-feel and durability due to the textured surface of the washi paper. The basic shape that's easy to use for both soup bowls and rice bowls makes them perfect for everyday dining. They come in a dedicated box featuring the "Owan-ya Uchida" logo, making them ideal as gifts for loved ones.
