A Simple Bath Mat Made from Kaya-ori Fabric
This bath mat is crafted from 'Kaya-ori,' a specialty of Nara. With excellent breathability and quick-drying properties, Kaya-ori fabric is perfect not only for dishcloths but also for bath mats.
While Nakagawa's long-selling Hana Fukin consists of two layers of this fabric sewn together, this bath mat features 16 layers of Kaya-ori to provide substantial thickness.

A Material That Improves in Absorbency and Texture with Use
Kaya-ori fabric is woven with starch, giving it a crisp texture when new. After the first wash, the starch is removed, revealing the soft, fluffy character unique to Kaya-ori. With repeated washing, the fibres develop a slight nap, further enhancing the fabric's absorbency and softness.
Easy to Wash Thanks to Quick-Drying Properties
The excellent breathability and quick-drying nature of Kaya-ori make this bath mat easy to launder—it can be thrown in with other items for a thorough wash. As you wash and reuse it, the fabric becomes increasingly soft and fluffy. Being so easy to wash helps keep it hygienic, allowing you to use it with a refreshing sense of cleanliness.
