**Please perform the "Medome" (seasoning) process before use**
※Ceramics have invisible small holes. To prevent tea from seeping in and causing stains or water leakage, please perform the seasoning process before use. Please check the seasoning method below.
**Important Precautions**
※Rapid heating or cooling may cause the pot to crack due to sudden temperature changes. Please be careful.
※Clay teapots have the property of storing heat, so they become very hot after heating.
※Please be careful to avoid burns and scorching your table.
※Can be used on direct flame.
[Before use]
**Please perform the "Medome" (seasoning) process**
※Seasoning helps starch fill the crazing (fine cracks on the surface) and the fine pores of the soil to prevent staining and water leakage.
1: Wipe dry or lightly wash with water, wipe off moisture, and dry thoroughly.
2: Fill the pot to 80% with water, add about 1 tablespoon of potato starch or flour, and heat on low until it boils.
3: Turn off the heat and let it cool naturally.
4: Once it has cooled somewhat, wash well, wipe off moisture, and dry thoroughly.
※The above process is sufficient if done once, but repeating 2-3 times provides added assurance.
[When using]
**Be careful of rapid heating and cooling**
※Sudden temperature changes can cause cracking.
※Avoid dry heating, sudden high heat, placing a leaking pot on fire, or adding large amounts of water when the pot is hot.
**Be careful of burns**
※Clay teapots retain heat for a long time once heated. They become very hot, so grip the handle firmly when using.
**Use a trivet or pot stand**
※Place the pot on a highly heat-resistant trivet or stand (wooden, metal, etc.).
※Use something that won't be damaged by scorching.
※Placing directly on tables may cause discoloration or deformation.
※Dragging directly on surfaces may cause scratches.
[After use]
**Wash gently**
※Avoid soaking and wash by hand after the teapot has cooled.
※Do not scrub hard with abrasive detergents or metal scourers, as this may cause scratches. Wash with a soft sponge.
**Dry thoroughly**
※After washing, wipe with a soft cloth and leave the lid open to dry thoroughly.
※Remaining moisture can cause odors and mold.
※Store in a well-ventilated place after ensuring it is completely dry.
※For long-term storage, to prevent mold, wrap in newspaper rather than storing in a box, and keep in a well-ventilated place.
[Maintenance]
**For mold**
※Fill to 80% with water, add about 1 tablespoon of vinegar, and simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes.
※Wash and dry thoroughly when cooled.
**For water leakage through cracks**
※If water leaks, perform the seasoning process again as you did before first use.
※The starch will fill the cracks and prevent leakage.
※With continued use, expansion and contraction due to heat may cause crazing and fine cracks, which is a natural characteristic of ceramic clay.
[Notes]
※Be careful of chipping or cracking due to strong impacts.
※For safety, stop using the product if it becomes cracked.
※The handle is made of natural materials, so there are individual differences in color and shape, and the color will change over time. Please enjoy the unique character of each piece and its natural aging.
※The handle may deform if excessive force is applied.
※To prevent deformation and mold, avoid using or storing in places with high moisture, direct sunlight, or direct exposure to heating or cooling.
※As each item is finished by hand, there may be individual differences in colour and shape.

Mellow Hot Water, Heated Over Direct Flame
For brewing delicious tea, three elements are crucial: the amount of tea leaves and water, temperature, and steeping time. This teapot can be placed directly over a flame to heat water to 100°C—the ideal temperature for hojicha (roasted green tea). Additionally, water boiled in this earthenware teapot becomes mellower due to far-infrared effects. The pottery's excellent heat retention keeps water warm longer, and reheating is simple with its direct-flame capability. To achieve both heat resistance and a textured finish with glossy appearance and crazing effects, we repeatedly adjusted the ratio of raw materials and glazes. The result is a teapot with a rustic yet commanding presence. The white glaze offers a simple, refined impression that complements and highlights patterned teacups. The crazing (fine cracks that form in the glaze during firing) will gradually absorb tea colour with use. Please enjoy this distinctive pottery characteristic as it develops a beautiful patina over time.

Natural Rattan Handle, Handcrafted One by One
We've incorporated a rattan handle that feels smooth and comfortable in the hand. Each handle is bent and shaped by hand, making mass production impossible. Currently, there are very few artisans capable of crafting rattan handles, creating a critical situation for this craft. This particular handle was made possible through collaboration with an artisan from Shimane Prefecture who, concerned about the extinction of this technique, learned and mastered it personally.

From Flame to Table—Convenient Direct-Flame Design
This teapot can be placed directly over a flame to fully draw out the tea's rich aroma. The convenience of bringing it straight to the table after heating is another advantage. With its approximately 1-litre capacity, it eliminates the need to repeatedly boil water, allowing for extended enjoyment of tea time. The interior features minimal grooves for easy cleaning. The white glaze benefits from a sealing process before first use to moderate tea staining.

Banko-yaki: A Diverse Pottery Tradition
Banko-yaki is pottery primarily produced in Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture. Known for its excellent heat resistance, it commands a high domestic market share in earthenware pot production. The product range is diverse, including tagines, rice cookers, charcoal braziers, and various tableware and vases in many sizes and shapes. Development of technologically advanced IH-compatible earthenware pots is also active. Teapots, alongside earthenware pots, are one of the region's representative products. Using iron-rich red clay and reduction firing without glaze creates a tightly fired colour said to complement green tea well.
