Handling Precautions

Care Instructions
  • Do not use detergents, cleansers, or steel scrubbers.
  • While the teapot is still warm, pat dry with a cloth. Wipe the exterior and lid dry as well. We especially recommend thoroughly removing moisture from the spout and contact points between lid and body as these areas are prone to rust.
  • Excessive rubbing of the surface (exterior) may cause color to fade.
  • Store in a well-ventilated area. Avoid places like under the sink where humidity is high.
Important Notices
  • Do not use for boiling water. Dry-heating may cause enamel to peel off. Use iron kettles for boiling water.
  • Iron will not leach from the teapot.
  • When using on tables, we recommend using a coaster to prevent heat rings from the iron teapot.
  • Be careful as excessive impact may cause cracking.
  • Iron teapots are for brewing tea, so avoid using for other purposes.
  • For new iron kettles, perform "iron kettle seasoning" according to the procedures in the included instruction manual before use.
  • For detailed handling instructions, please refer to the product quality label.

Nambu Iron Teapot from a 160-Year-Old Foundry.

This Nambu iron teapot comes from Oigen Casting, founded in 1852 during the final years of the Edo period. For over a century and a half, they have crafted essential cooking vessels – pots and kettles – for everyday life.

Excellent heat retention keeps food at a delicious temperature for a long time

Iron teapots are used in the same way as regular teapots, in that you pour boiled water into them instead of boiling water over a fire. If you pour out the water to warm up the teapot before adding the tea leaves, the excellent heat retention of Nambu iron will be more pronounced, and you can enjoy hot tea for a longer period of time.

Even when left out, it has a picturesque, dignified appearance

The pot is decorated with the Arare pattern, a typical design of Nambu iron, and although it is small, it has the weight and dignity that is unique to Nambu ironware. It also has a modern feel, and when you are not using it, you will want to display it in a visible place such as the kitchen or on an open shelf. The Arare pattern is not only decorative, but also has the effect of increasing heat retention, allowing you to enjoy a leisurely tea time.
