Material and Finish Notes

This product is coated with a stronger coating than regular wooden cutlery and is dishwasher safe.

As the surface finish deteriorates, the appearance may change over time (warping, discoloration, etc.).

With normal use, the paint may peel off from the spout and handle, and the coating will gradually thin with repeated cleaning.

To ensure its longevity, we recommend handling it as carefully as possible.

Practical to use, with a calm and balanced appearance.

A small wooden spoon that is easy to use for desserts and soups. Wooden cutlery is often avoided for use in dishwashers, as it is vulnerable to heat and moisture. With this in mind, we set out to create cutlery that retains the warmth and natural character of wood whilst offering everyday practicality. By carefully selecting a finishing method that enhances the wood’s natural grain, we achieved a comfortable texture, a gentle feel on the lips, and a sense of warmth when used. The spoon is also designed with particular attention to the thinness of the tip, bringing out a smooth and pleasant mouthfeel.

Built up through many thin layers to preserve the subtle character of whiping lacquer .

Finished in Yamanaka, Ishikawa Prefecture, a region known for lacquerware, the spoon is first treated with fuki-urushi, a traditional wiping lacquer technique, and then coated with an additional finish that improves dishwasher resistance. Although the grain remains visible and the process may appear simple, fuki-urushi requires repeated cycles of applying lacquer, wiping it away, and polishing, carried out carefully by hand.

Use and washing tests conducted.

Dishwasher testing was conducted by an external institution, with the spoon subjected to 1,000 wash cycles. As a reference, we also show an example that was used two to three times a week over eight months. Compared to an unused piece, the coating has become slightly thinner, and the edges of the spoon show some lightening where the finish has worn. Ageing will vary depending on use and care, but we hope you will enjoy these changes as part of the natural character of wood.
